How to Adjust Misaligned Sealing Film?

In our previous article, Leadtra Packaging discussed the common causes of sealing film misalignment. Today, let's look at the step-by-step adjustment process.

Step 1: Check Film Roll Installation

First, turn off the sealing machine to ensure safe operation. Check whether the film roll is centered on the shaft and if the locking nut is tightened properly. When reinstalling, ensure the film roll fits snugly against the shaft and rotates smoothly without wobbling.

Step 2: Adjust Clamp Tightness

Check the tightness of the fixing clamps (butterfly clamps) that hold the sealing film. If too tight, loosen them slightly so the film roll can rotate gently; if too loose, tighten appropriately to eliminate wobbling. The correct tightness allows the film roll to rotate manually with some resistance but smooth movement.

Step 3: Balance Tension

Inspect the tension adjustment devices along the film path. Feel the film surface with your hand — it should be flat without slack. Adjust the tension control rods or springs to ensure even pull on both left and right sides.

Step 4: Clean and Calibrate Photoelectric Eye

Use a soft cloth to clean the photoelectric eye lens, removing dust or stains. Ensure the sensor's light spot hits the center of the registration mark (eye mark) on the packaging film, not blank areas or patterns. Adjust sensitivity according to the film's color contrast: increase sensitivity for light-colored marks, decrease for dark-colored marks.

Step 5: Check Rollers

Clean all roller surfaces, especially areas that may have stains or adhesive residue. Check whether the rollers rotate smoothly. If any abnormalities are found, repair or replace them promptly.

Step 6: Adjust Heat Sealing Temperature

If the sealing film shows warping, try lowering the heat sealing temperature appropriately. Different film materials require different temperatures; adjust according to material specifications.

Other Special Situation Adjustments:

1. Inaccurate Sealing Pattern

If the sealing pattern position is offset, it may be due to the film roll being installed too far forward or backward. Automatic sealing machines perform cutting and sealing actions based on the photoelectric eye detecting the sensor block on the film. Incorrect installation position can lead to inaccurate sensing. Adjust the sensor position or film length for calibration.

2. Film Wrinkling

If the film surface wrinkles after sealing, it may be due to the film material being too soft or the heat sealing temperature being too high. Consider using film material with higher hardness, or appropriately lower the heat sealing temperature.

3. Misalignment Between Cutting Line and Cross Seal Edge

The cutting blade being installed too low, the guide comb under the blade becoming bent, or the blade base being installed unevenly can all cause misalignment between the cutting line and seal edge. Check and adjust the cutting device.

Although sealing film misalignment is common, most problems can be quickly resolved by mastering the correct troubleshooting approach and adjustment methods. From film roll installation, clamp tightness, and tension balance to photoelectric eye calibration, every step deserves careful attention.
