How does perfume breathable film achieve “breathable and liquid tight“?
The key to achieving this seemingly contradictory function of perfume breathable film lies in its precise microstructure design and application of material science, which are mainly achieved through the following four core technologies:
Micro porous engineering design
The membrane surface is covered with regular micropores with a diameter of 0.01-0.1 μ m (equivalent to one thousandth of a human hair), which:
20 times smaller than water molecule clusters (about 100 μ m), effectively blocking the passage of liquids
100 times larger than aroma molecules (0.3-0.6nm), allowing for free diffusion
Adopting an asymmetric pore structure and a funnel-shaped design with small inside and large outside to further prevent liquid infiltration
Material surface modification technology
By plasma treatment or chemical grafting, the membrane surface is formed with:
Superhydrophobic layer (contact angle>150 °), with alcohol solution rolling in a spherical shape on the surface
Negative charge modification layer, using electrostatic repulsion to prevent negatively charged liquid molecules
Chemical inert treatment, resistant to ethanol (concentration up to 95%) and ester solvents in perfume
Multi layer composite structure
A typical sandwich structure includes:
Outer layer: PTFE microporous membrane (thickness 50 μ m, porosity 80%)
Middle: nanofiber mesh (pore size gradient variation)
Inner layer: selective permeation membrane (molecular sieve effect)
Physical chemistry synergy mechanism
Capillary effect: Surface tension generated by micropores counteracts liquid gravity
Gas differential pressure drive: aroma molecules actively diffuse due to concentration differences
Dissolution diffusion principle: Hydrophobic materials hinder the permeation of polar liquids
Actual performance parameters
Liquid pressure resistance: can withstand 2.5m liquid column pressure without leakage
Breathable rate: 15 ± 2ml/min/cm ² (at 25 ℃)
Alcohol barrier:<0.01g/m ²/day (95% ethanol)

The latest developed intelligent responsive membrane can dynamically control the aroma release rate by adjusting the pore size through temperature control (such as enlarging the pore size by 8% for every 10 ℃ increase in temperature).
