But some users wonder: this paperboard looks like it's still in good condition — could it be put back and used again?

The industry consensus is: reusing sealing gaskets is not recommended. The reason is simple — gaskets are designed for single-use sealing, and reusing them comes with multiple risks.

Sealing performance is already compromised

From a technical standpoint, the sealing gasket has already been compressed once during the initial sealing process. Whether it's the aluminum foil layer or the paperboard layer, their material structures have undergone irreversible changes during fusion with the bottle mouth. A compressed gasket has already lost some of its sealing effectiveness — it will be difficult to restore the original fit and seal performance when reused.

The structure has already changed

Electromagnetic induction sealing gaskets are made of multiple layers laminated together. After sealing, the aluminum foil layer and the paperboard layer automatically separate. The aluminum foil layer stays on the bottle mouth to form the seal, while the paperboard layer remains in the cap. After one sealing cycle, the gasket has completed its intended function — putting it back cannot restore it to its original laminated state.

Hygiene and safety risks

Food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic packaging have strict hygiene requirements. After the first use, the gasket has come into contact with the contents, and the bottle mouth may also have residual oil or moisture. Reusing the gasket could introduce cross-contamination. Especially if the gasket has been stored in a high-temperature, high-humidity environment, the paperboard layer may have already absorbed moisture — reusing it could actually affect the quality of the contents.

Does it really save costs?

On the surface, reusing gaskets seems to save on material costs.
