Why does the sealing liner stick to the bottle cap when you unscrew it?
You unscrew the cap and find that the liner didn't stay on the bottle mouth — it's stuck firmly to the inside of the cap instead. You may have encountered this before. Some worry it's a product quality issue, but it's actually not. To understand why, you first need to know what the liner looks like.
A typical electromagnetic induction sealing liner is made of several layers stacked together — paperboard on top, aluminum foil in the middle, and a heat-seal film at the bottom. During sealing, the induction device heats the aluminum foil instantly, melting the heat-seal film onto the bottle mouth and bonding it in place.
But the paperboard and aluminum foil aren't permanently fixed together — their bond is designed to be "separable." Once sealing is complete, the aluminum foil and heat-seal film remain on the bottle mouth to form the seal, while the paperboard stays inside the cap. When you unscrew the cap, the paperboard naturally comes off with it — this isn't "sticking to the cap," it's "designed that way."
Many people mistakenly think the entire liner should stay on the bottle mouth, but that's a misunderstanding of its structure. As long as there's a complete layer of aluminum foil left on the bottle mouth, the seal is intact.
Of course, if the aluminum foil layer is pulled up along with the paperboard, that's a red flag — it means the bond between the paperboard and aluminum foil is too strong, or the heat seal strength between the aluminum foil and the bottle mouth is insufficient, and the seal may have been compromised. That's when there's a real sealing problem.
Most of the time, the liner sticking to the cap isn't a quality issue — it's a normal phenomenon determined by the structure. What really matters is whether that layer of aluminum foil is still on the bottle mouth — if it is, you're good; if not, then it's time to investigate.
